This piece was recorded on 22 November 2020 at the Theatre of Hong Kong City Hall by the Sregnis Singers.
This piece was written in response to the COVID-19 pandemic, with music set to the traditional Latin prayer Ave Maria. This work is an exploration of the relationship between text and music. With the pandemic affecting Hong Kong and different parts of the world, 2020 had been a particular challenging year for many of us. As a medical doctor, my feeling to this terrific pandemic is truly intense. In such times of uneasiness, I wish to deliver messages of blessings and comfort to listeners through this choral work.
Ave Maria, gratia plena,
Benedicta tu in mulieribus,
et benedictus fructus ventris tui, Jesus.
Hail Mary, full of grace,
the Lord is with thee.
Blessed art thou amongst women,
and blessed is the fruit of thy womb, Jesus.
Holy Mary, Mother of God,
pray for us sinners,
now and at the hour of our death. Amen.
