Today we have another performance from Nevis Ensemble. Earlier in the series you heard a brass quintet from Nevis Ensemble perform some Christmas treats. Now, we have the full orchestra. Nevis Ensemble was established in 2018 with the aim to take music to everyone, everywhere. Since then, Nevis has given 200 live orchestral performances to almost 30,000 people around Scotland – from a farm in the Borders to the remote islands of St Kilda and the summit of Ben Nevis itself. In between, the orchestra has performed in care homes, prisons, homeless centres, schools, hospitals, supermarkets, beaches, train stations and countless other venues.
This year Nevis took its activity online, commissioning 17 new works, with projects reaching participants in 130 countries. Resulting videos have been viewed online more than half a million times. Witherbys has been with Nevis from the beginning and the orchestra has even dropped into the office a couple of times for a concert. Nevis gathered earlier in December to record two new carol commissions and a major new work by composer Alex Ho, but also had the time to record today’s programme of Christmas and Scottish favourites for Witherbys.
