In the early Fall of 2019, our friend Bryan Smith came to us with an idea of a new type of Brass Quintet. It would be a quintet dedicated to performing works by underrepresented Female, LGBTQIA+, and POC composers throughout history. Through the means of music and performance, we would trace the history of the Feminist, Civil Rights, and Equality movements through these entertaining educational concerts. Soon after he pitched us his idea, SWIFT Prism was born.

Fast-forward to late March 2020, and we were about to announce our Debut Concert. Unfortunately, the COVID19 Pandemic lockdown required that we all Quarantine ourselves to limit the spread of the virus. We all remained in contact with each other, and decided to work on a “Quarantine Performance” of this piece, “O Magnum Mysterium”, for our HealthCare workers who were on the front lines fighting this Pandemic. A week later, we heard the tragic news that Bryan had passed away unexpectedly.

This performance is dedicated to our friend and colleague, Bryan Smith. A true ally, fierce friend, and loving husband and father of 2 beautiful girls.

SWIFT Prism:
Trumpets: Alyssa Keene and Rachel Allen
