Since 2016, Go As If has spent summers at The Ford in Hollywood, California, curating pre-show art projects for a family concert series entitled “Big World Fun”. From bookmarks made with vintage kimono fabric, collaged travel postcards, Indian Kantha fabric keychains, and Orisha-Inspired upcycled cloth dolls, the projects are for all ages and inspired by the theme of each show.

With COVID-19 silencing the 2020 season at the theatre, we were thrilled to return with a virtual art-making series featuring some of my favorite Los Angeles artists: Jay Davis, Nasimeh B E, and Steve Haney.

Presented in conjunction with music and dance workshops entitled LA Soundscapes, this series continues The Ford’s tradition of family-friendly artmaking. Each workshop focuses on a different art project associated with an LA Soundscapes concert, with materials provided ahead of time.

Percussionist Steve Haney of the band JUNGLE FIRE knows how to get in a groove. He’ll teach you the ins and outs of analog collage – and you’ll handcut a collage of your own, inspired by the vibrancy of Viver Brasil!

Music: “Biri Biri” and “Atomico” by Jungle Fire

A big thank you to LA Phil and The Ford for making this possible!
