On “Stop Making Sense” – Griffin Sheridan

Talking Heads and Jonathan Demme’s 1984 concert film “Stop Making Sense” captures one of the most energetic and exhausting (in the best way possible) musical performances ever put to screen. This essay highlights some of the magnificent movement in the film, as Byrne (lead singer of the band) believes music is first and foremost of the body, before the mind. To emphasize said bodily movement, the music is removed (despite how good it is) so all that is left is the visual of Byrne and company constantly bouncing around the stage.
