A Club Cardinal Music Session | “Live” from the Jenius Stage

**IMPORTANT NOTE from the home-owner**
Our piano “Donny” is a rescue instrument and came to us the day before Rachel baptized our home with her gift of music. Out of tune and Rachel was quick to discover she is also without an important pedal. Yes, Donny the piano is a girl.

Minus my playing an electrifying version of Hot Cross Buns, it had not been played in our home.**

On the couch for Rachel’s concert were 4 of my 5 children along with Mel, Rachel’s amazing sister. This performance & my friendship with Rachel would not have been made possible if it were not for her sister’s WOW. As a former server and all around bad ass, I always looked forward chatting it up with her passing through or taking a break and enjoying the best dining in Cedar Rapids.

It was a conversation I had with her about my blooming project, the Seek Jenius project, that she proudly told me about her amazing sister, Rachel… and a new play called Medusa she had written and composed in college (at TISCH).

For the last song, I asked Rachel if it would be ok if my question helped determine the selection. In short, I asked what song kind of just fell out and came to her naturally…almost reflexive. There was zero hesitation with her choosing “Home Enough to Me” from her play she wrote and composed with David Brush.

It was an honor to hear her play this song and grace our new piano and home with her gifts. Rachel’s playing for us and the joy we have had since speaks volumes for the respect and love she has for the people in her life, family, the art of music, and for theatre.

**For what it’s worth…It took 3-4 times as long for me to write this description than it did for Rachel to compose this song…**
