At its first public performance, the Sunshine Choir wowed an enthusiastic audience who’d come to browse on the annual Christmas Market in Pembroke Castle. They were joined by another Pembrokeshire choir, Cantabile, and the programme consisted of songs from musicals, shanties, spirituals, and pop and rock numbers as well as carols. A high point was their performance of ‘Sing’, a soaring melody by Gary Barlow and Andrew Lloyd Webber.
The Sunshine Choir was formed earlier this year by Rosita Roles, who runs Music and Memories sessions for people with dementia and their carers. She also sings with Cantabile, whose leader, Sam Howley, conducted the concert with infectious gaiety. Seimon Morris, acting as accompanist, did conjuring tricks on the keyboard, transforming hallowed old favourites into the most amazing jazz riffs.
