This work sample shows use of multiple languages two different pieces:
0:00 to 02:23- Short from full symphonic piece performed at Colden Auditorium, 1001 Voices for orchestra and voice. This clip shows how we used multiple languages for performance with professional orchestra, singers, and actors. Music by Frank London, libretto Judith Sloan, animation Warren Lehrer. Translations by various actors and scholars.
02:23 to 03:55 Excerpt “Listen to Me” song developed with immigrant youth. This was edited from various rehearsals. Chorus in English and Spanish and then later in various languages overlapped. Chorus written by Cheryl Chong and verses by group. Translations by participants in their native languages.
03:55 to 06:40- Vissi Dance Theater, Choreographer Courtney Ffrench. Dis Poem by Mutabaruka, Jamaican poet.
06:41 to 08:54 Excerpt of rehearsal Vissi Dance Theater.
We will be creating new work with songs that will be interpreted and translated into several languages to be performed by professional singers, musicians, dancers along with immigrant youth and community members in a full concert called Songs for a New America, choreographed by Courtney Ffrench.
